At Auckland Memorial Park & Cemetery, we offer a range of burial plots Auckland families often choose for their serene, peaceful setting.
Different areas have been developed to accommodate a variety of cultural needs and religious traditions.
Set against the serene backdrop of the Settlers Cottage,
this tranquil burial ground gently wraps around a natural amphitheatre.
Each burial plot typically accommodates two full burials and two ash interments, though we can tailor arrangements to suit the unique needs of each family.
A very popular area, the terraces provide a flat burial site for every plot. Each row has its own stairs, pathways and retaining wall. Each burial plot can accommodate two “body burials” and two “ash interments”. However you are welcome to discuss your family’s unique needs.
Jade and Golden Terraces are designed to take full advantage of the park’s architectural design. The view from these Terraces affords a grand panorama of our natural amphitheatre. When memorialising in these areas a wide choice of designs and styles are permitted.
Burial plots with a personalized monument at Auckland Memorial Park & Cemetery offer a profound and enduring way to honor and remember loved ones. Unlike temporary markers, a personalized monument reflects the unique essence and individual stories of those interred, making each resting place a meaningful tribute.
A personalized monument stands as a testament to the impact and significance of the individual it commemorates, ensuring that their memory endures for future generations. It provides a tangible, lasting legacy that can offer comfort and solace, while also serving as a source of pride and remembrance for those who come to pay their respects.

Burial plots at Auckland Memorial Park are owned in perpetuity, which means that the Park and its managers can never resell a plot without the owner’s consent. Many other cemeteries have a limited tenure on unused plots.
It is possible to be buried on private land in New Zealand, however you must apply for approval from the Minister of Health to do so. It is extremely rare for such applications to be approved and consultation with legal experts and funeral directors would be necessary well before the time of need.
Yes. At Auckland Memorial Park, you can pre-purchase either a burial plot or ash plot that will accommodate additional family members. Typically, the first burial is placed deeper in the ground, allowing for a second burial above, along with room nearer the surface for two ash burials.
“Single Depth” graves are usually dug to a depth of around 1.4 metres. For “Double Depth” graves, the first grave would be deeper, around 1.7 metres to allow room for a second burial on top. Cremation plots for interring cremated remains are much shallower, generally around 0.6 metres.
